The healing power of art

You don’t need to be an artist to benefit from arts-based emotional support!

Art is a universal language and can be a launching pad for the healing process by helping you to express thoughts and feelings that may otherwise be difficult to articulate.

Is your daily life a struggle?

Living with a disability or caring for a family member who is physically or developmentally disabled can be a challenge.

Disabilities can range from severely debilitating conditions such as paralysis, in which an individual is wheelchair-bound; to “invisible” disabilities such as fibromyalgia; to learning disabilities such as attention deficit disorders (ADD, ADHD).

Individuals with disabilities and their families experience higher rates of depression, anxiety and stress. People facing these challenges often feel as if the world is constricted. For some, basic daily tasks take up so much time and effort that there is little energy left for goals and interests. For others, the limitations and instability inherent in having disabilities can make it hard to plan, leading to social isolation and the perception that dreams are not achievable.

It doesn’t need to be this way.

You can feel better.
So can your loved ones.

Arts-based emotional support is a powerful tool for reducing stress, identifying psychological barriers and learning valuable coping skills to improve your daily life.

I can help you find ways to modify and achieve your goals. I can also serve as a sounding board and provide a neutral space for difficult decision making. As a result of our work together, you may move toward a greater sense of empowerment and expand your sense of possibilities. Instead of feeling exhausted and overwhelmed, you may feel reinvigorated and hopeful. We will strive together towards better health and well-being.

If you are supporting a disabled person in your life, you may benefit from the guidance of a disabilities expert. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a law that gives protections to people with disabilities so that they can have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. Disabled individuals frequently need the assistance of an advocate to ensure the proper accommodations to succeed in schools, to be productive in workplace environments or to remain safely in their homes. I can consult with you or advocate on your behalf, if a stronger approach is necessary.

I support individuals, couples and families challenged by the impact of the following disabilities:

  • Chronic health conditions
  • Genetic syndromes
  • Catastrophic injuries
  • Progressive degenerative conditions
  • Autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
  • Learning disabilities: attention deficit disorders (ADD, ADHD), dyslexia, auditory processing difficulties or issues of executive functioning
  • Developmental delays
  • Other debilitating conditions with long-term impact
  • Issues related to aging

You don’t have to face these challenges alone. Please contact me today to get the support you need.
